Garret Forrester hit a three-run home run in the first and Jacob Melton led in one on a two-out double in the ninth but the Beavers were edged by Auburn, 7-5, Saturday in Game 1 of the Corvallis Super Regional. Travis Bazzana had two hits for the Beavers, who recorded seven as a team. The OSU bullpen – Brock Townsend, Mitchell Verbourg, dj carpenter and AJ Lattery – combined to limit the Tigers to six hits and two runs with six strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. With the home run, Forrester now has 60 RBIs on the year and nine long walks. Melton, meanwhile, has 82 RBIs in 2022.

Jacob Melton set the OSU single-season record with 169 total goals. He doubled a home run on the ninth Saturday that pushed him past Trevor Larnach (2018). The RBI was the 82nd of the year for Melton, who now trails single-season leader Adley Rutschman (2018) by just one.
• The win was also Melton’s 91st of the year, equaling Steven Kwan (2018) and Wade Meckler (2022) for third place in Oregon State.
