MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Novak Djokovic faces another deportation after the Australian government revoked his visa for the second time, and this time just three days before the Australian Open. Everyone at the Open must be vaccinated against COVID-19. Djokovic is not and requested an exemption as he had COVID-19 in December. Djokovic’s lawyers are expected to appeal the cancellation.
ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Hawks sent forwards Cam Reddish and Solomon Hill and a second-round pick in this year’s draft to the New York Knicks for small forward Kevin Knox and a 2022 first-round pick. Reddish has received regular playing time for Atlanta this season, averaging 11.9 points and 2.5 rebounds in 34 games. Reddish and Knox are recent first-round picks, but Knox has started just 61 of the Knicks’ 195 games after being drafted in 2018.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland Trail Blazers goaltender Damian Lillard is out for at least six weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a heart injury that left him with abdominal pain. The six-time All-Star has missed five games since the start of the year, and 11 games in total this season, due to a lower abdominal tendinopathy injury.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama offensive stars Jameson Williams and Evan Neal are entering the NFL Draft and skipping their senior seasons. Williams led Crimson Tide receivers with 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns in his only season after transferring from Ohio State. Neal played at left tackle last season and started 39 games on the line in three seasons. Both are All-Americans and projected first-round picks.
UNDATED (AP) — Union negotiations to end baseball’s lockdown have resumed for the first time in 1.5 months. There was little obvious progress in a trading session that lasted about an hour yesterday, jeopardizing the timely start of spring training. Major League Baseball imposed the lockout Dec. 2 as soon as the five-year collective agreement expired, hours after talks broke down.
