“(Costanza) hasn’t given me anything all day,” said Hagestad, a sophomore MBA student at the University of Southern California. “I thought that at some point maybe I would have a break or he would leave me a hole. I knew he would come out swinging. He’s a very good player. I tried to go out and get him to beat me, and he almost did.

Costanza, 32, is from Morristown, New Jersey.

“It’s tough because when you come out of a hole you want to birdies, but you know if you wobble you go deeper into the hole,” Costanza said. “We have to keep the momentum going. I think I kept the honor all day. I’ve done a few clutch ups and downs and I’m proud of myself.
