DURHAM – Duke wraps up his three-game homestand on Saturday when he hosts Kansas at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium

Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. and the match will be broadcast live on the ACC network (ACCN)

The historic series between the two schools is tied, 1-1. At the last team meeting on September 13, 2014, running back Duke Shaun Wilson broke the school record in a rushing game with 245 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Blue Devils past Kansas, 41-3, in Durham.

After three games, the senior running back Mateo Durant sits atop the league charts in many categories. Most notably, he ranks first for rushing yards (398), scoring (48 points), total touchdowns (eight), rushing touchdowns (seven) and second for general yards per game (167.00).

Durant continues to climb the rankings for the Blue Devils. His 102 yards against Northwestern propelled him to 18th place with 1,719 career yards and are currently 221 yards from breaking into the top 10.

Junior Linebacker Redshirt Shaka Heyward recorded his second consecutive double-digit tackling game against Northwestern last weekend. The Dacula, Ga. Native now has seven career double-digit tackling games.

The Blue Devils forced five turnovers (three INTs and two fumbles) against Northwestern for the first time since winning five (four INTs and one fumble) against Tulane on September 4, 2014.

Freshman running back Shaun Wilson broke the school’s one-game running record with 245 yards to help Duke pass Kansas, 41-3. Wilson’s last ground mileage was only completed over 12 carries, which is an average of 20.4 yards per carry. His 252 all-purpose yards were ranked 12th in a single game in school history at that time and second by a freshman from Duke. Duke beat the Jayhawks 511-297 in the victory and recorded over 30 points for the third game in a row. The defense did its part by forcing two turnovers and limiting Kansas to just 17 first downs and just 95 yards in the air. Jeremy Cash Headlining the unit with 12 and a half tackles.

Duke turns 34-21 in September under the direction of the head coach David Cutcliffe. At home, the Blue Devils are 22-13.

Duke recorded 1,571 total yards in the first three games for the most since reaching 1,580 in 1988.

Graduate student quarterback Gunnar holmberg made her first college start against Charlotte. In his first three games as a Duke starter, Holmberg completed 71 of 100 passes for 812 yards with two touchdowns. The Wake Forest, NC native added 20 completed passes from over 15 yards, including his first career TD pass – a second from 43 yards to redshirt. Jordan waters against Charlotte.

Against Northwestern, Duke finished with a 300-yard passer, 100-yard receiver and 100-yard rusher for the first time since 2018 when Daniel Jones (396 passages), Johnathan lloyd (136 reception), and Deon Jackson (162 on ground) did so against Pittsburgh. Saturday’s accomplishments against the Wildcats marked the 17th time in program history that a trio have reached that mark.

Duke is one of four ACC schools with three players making the conference’s top 20 for tackles. Junior Linebacker Redshirt Shaka Heyward tops the list with 32, while senior security at redshirt Lummie Young II tied for eighth (25) and linebacker in second year Dorian Mausi is tied for 16th (21).

Junior Linebacker Redshirt Shaka Heyward has recorded 1+ tackle in 19 consecutive games. He also recorded fumble recoveries against Pittsburgh (2019), North Carolina (2019) and Georgia Tech (2020), while winning a safety and special teams TD against Georgia Tech in 2020. In 30 games in career (20 starts), Heyward has compiled 185 tackles, 18.0 TFL, 6.5 sacks, one INT, three fumble recoveries and nine QB presses.

Sophomore redshirt RJ Oben and DeWayne Carter as well as senior redshirt Lummie Young IV hold the three Duke bags over the year. Oben’s sack came in when the Blue Devil opened in Charlotte, while Carter and Young IV both recorded backpacks against Northwestern in Duke’s last outing.

Duke hosted his main punt return Josh blackwell after missing most of the 2020 season due to injury. In his three return games, Blackwell returned five punts for 51 yards (10.2). Second year Jaylen stinson recorded all six of Duke’s launch returns that year. He amassed 113 yards on those six returns for an 18.83 average.
