Ariyalur: In a shocking incident, a retired Tamil Nadu government doctor alleged that a bank refused him a loan for not knowing the Hindi language.

The doctor named Balasubramanian, originally from Jayamkondan in Ariyalur district, alleged that the branch of Indian Overseas Bank in Gangai Konda Chozha Puram, where he has held an account for 15 years, rejected his loan application for not knowing Hindi.

Despite producing all the documents, the bank manager reportedly said he only knew Hindi and did not process the loan application.

Dr Balasubrahmanain has now sent legal advice to the bank and sued him for Rs 1 lakh for causing mental agony.

Reacting to this, the chairman of the DMK, MK Stalin, condemned the action of the branch manager and warned not to play with the “feelings” of the Tamils.
