Small brush fire creates widespread smoke due to high winds

A brush fire ignited in the Newhall area on Sunday and created thick, widespread smoke due to high winds.

At approximately 11:02 p.m., first responders received reports of a brush fire on the 21000 block of Needham Ranch Parkway in Santa Clarita, according to Twitter of the Incidents of the City of Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire was reported to have grown to a quarter of an acre, with light brush in the surrounding area.

The firefighters quickly intervened to extinguish the small fire, but smoke is visible in the surroundings due to the high winds, from 11:30 am.

City officials are advising people to avoid the area, according to the City of Santa Clarita Twitter page.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
