Tell us about the services offered by your station.
We are a full-service, independent radio station broadcasting in the Louisville metro area and southern Indiana, collectively known as Kentuckiana. We provide daily local and national news, local and national farm news, local sports and weather updates every 20 minutes. We deliver nearly 10 times the local content required by the FCC each month and are deeply rooted in the local communities we serve. We are present on social networks and more than 50,000 people follow us regularly for news and sports information. We also have a successful website that generates over half a million visits per month. We broadcast parts of the day’s programming – including our morning show and sporting events – on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. During the pandemic and the return of local sports, we had over 2 million people streaming our programming.
Tell us about your community involvement.
Our stations have won the Indiana Broadcaster’s Association Community Service Award five years in a row (2016-2021), won the Local Chamber of Commerce Company of the Year award in 2016, and I won the Citizen of the Year award in 2018. WSLM 1220 AM first aired in 1953 and my father, Don Martin, has won several community awards over the years. We have participated in the promotion of fairs, festivals and have set up fundraising activities that have generated over $ 750,000 over the years for area children and their families and for cancer research. .
Tell us about any involvement you have, or the coverage you provide, with groups related to agriculture.
We partner with local county fairs to recognize 4H youth each year and award a Brownfield belt buckle as well as participate in other aspects of each fair including broadcasting live events. We have reported farming and farming news on WSLM since 1952 and have won national and national honors for our farming programming.

WSLM was recognized by the Motor Racing Network in 2019 as one of 12 radio stations in the United States that have been broadcasting NASCAR races for 50 years. Additionally, we are one of five stations to broadcast INDY running events since 1952. We will soon be celebrating 70 years of working with our communities in the Kentuckiana region to keep them informed, entertained and up to date with the latest news, sports. and weather information.
