The Braves reactivate Ronald Acuña from the injured list

The Braves have tentatively marked May 6 as Ronald Acuña’s return date, but based on his progress at Gwinnett, I always thought it would be much sooner than that. Fortunately, I was right. The Braves officially reactivated Acuña from IL today, and I imagine he will be first at bat in the series finale against the Cubs.

This will no doubt provide a much-needed boost to the Braves roster, which has been a struggling group thus far, leading to an 8-11 start to the season. Atlanta is currently 5.5 games behind the Mets for first place, and while it’s only April, it’s not a hole the Braves want to let deepen.

Following the activation of Acuña, Alex Dickerson has been designated for assignment. Dickerson got off to a rocky start, hitting just .121, but the baseball gods did him no favors. It seemed like he hit the ball hard every time he got to home plate, and she always found someone’s glove. I’m sure he’ll hang on to another team, or he could end up providing organizational depth to the Braves.
