Kangol Kid, member of legendary hip-hop group UTFO, has died from a battle with colon cancer. He was 55 years old.
The family of Kangol Kid – real name Shaun Shiller Fequiere – said in a statement that he passed away peacefully around 3 a.m. on Saturday at a hospital in Manhasset, New York. She was diagnosed with cancer in February.
Kid was known to often wear the popular Kangol headgear and be a member of UTFO, which stands for Organization of the Untouchable Force. The four-member group were known for their 1980s hits, including “Roxanne, Roxanne” and “Ya Cold Wanna Be With Me”.
Along with his success in hip-hop, Kid was recognized for his breast cancer efforts through the Mama Luke Foundation. After his diagnosis, he spoke publicly about the need for regular screening.
