A large crowd gathered on Friday for an official groundbreaking ceremony in the center – a ceremony many people were eagerly awaiting as it marks the start of construction of a brand new Farmers & Merchants bank branch to service complete, 1225 Chesnut Bypass:

This is company president Chris Latta – who spoke to WEIS Radio News afterwards and shared with us some of the things the new branch will offer when opening business – combining technology with the latest and most advanced available, with services:

In conclusion, Mr. Latta summarized what he thinks a bank should stand for, do and be part of its community:

A Brief History of Farmers & Merchants Bank

In 1915, Charley N. Thompson founded Farmers & Merchants Bank. Its goal was to provide our community with a bank that would meet the financial needs of families and business owners largely overlooked by big city banks.

Farmers & Merchants Bank has adopted the concepts of exceptional personal service and comprehensive financial solutions as the foundation of our mission. We have continued to focus on these goals while becoming a strong, solid financial entity that everyone can count on.

The day we first opened our doors in Piedmont, we did so with $ 15,000 in assets. Since then we have seen the Great Depression, the world wars and even the financial crisis.

We opened our first branch in Anniston in 1989 and continued to expand our presence in Calhoun County with additional branches in Jacksonville in 1995 and Oxford in 1998. We opened a new facility in Piedmont in 2009 Our next move took us outside. County of Calhoun when we opened our first loan production office at the center in 2018.

We have always been true to Mr. Thompson’s original purpose; however, he could never have imagined a customer checking his balance or making a deposit without going to the bank. Farmers & Merchants Bank has grown and prospered because we have never failed to honor our commitment to service, solutions and strength. Ours is truly a tradition of excellence … since 1915.
